Book Review: Scoring Wilder (Standalone)

  Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What started out as a joke— seduce Coach Wilder—soon became a goal she had to score.

With Olympic tryouts on the horizon, the last thing nineteen-year-old Kinsley Bryant needs to add to her plate is Liam Wilder. He's a professional soccer player, America's favorite bad-boy, and has all the qualities of a skilled panty-dropper.

• A face that makes girls weep – check.

• Abs that can shred Parmesan cheese (the expensive kind) – check
• Enough confidence to shift the earth’s gravitational pull – double check.
Not to mention Liam is strictly off limits . Forbidden. Her coaches have made that perfectly clear. (i.e. “Score with Coach Wilder anywhere other than the field and you’ll be cut from the team faster than you can count his tattoos.”) But that just makes him all the more enticing…Besides, Kinsley's already counted the visible ones, and she is not one to leave a project unfinished.
Kinsley tries to play the game her way as they navigate through forbidden territory, but Liam is determined to teach her a whole new definition for the term “team bonding.”

This has to be one of my favorite books. It even stands the test of multiple reads.

This review contains spoilers! Also, it won't make much sense if you haven't read the book.

With that said, let's jump right in!

Oh. My. God. This book was freaking EPIC!! SOOOO GOOOOOD (yes, all the O's are, in fact, necessary).
At times it had me laughing like a hyena on crack, then all righteously pissed off, then all squirmish because of the over-the-charts sexual tension... I loved every second of it! But let's break it down:

  • The uncontrollable "ROTFL moments": mainly they were thanks to Becca's (the BFF) and Kingsley's (the MC) blunt, marvelously unfiltered mouths. Seriously, who wouldn't want to have BFFs like them? And then, of course, all the awesome pop culture references: Harry Potter, Katniss, Miley, 50 shades... I'd be like, quietly reading, minding my own business, and then something funny would happen and I'd just start snort-laughing (not pretty btw).
  • As for the pissed off part; Tara, you're a biotch. Jeez! Crazy, jealous, psycho-slut much? Your insecurities are showing, honey. Yeah, I didn't like her (that's how good antagonists are written). But those awful Tara-moments made Kingsley's perseverant, don't-stoop-to-her-level personality shine all the brighter. I really liked how she fought tooth and nail for her dream, but never played dirty. That was an excellent message "If you work hard enough, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to".
  • And the love part of the story? Have you even seen that guy on the cover? I think I wanna lick his jaw. I'm not even kidding. Liam was a certifiable dreamboat, there's not another way to describe him. At first he was kind of a jerk, but it was because his sexual frustration was messing with his brain! He was so dreamy! Hott (with two t's, yes), encouraging, supportive, understanding, protective, caring. Yeah, I totally fell in love with him. And when he and Kingsley were together, spark flew. Honest! They are definitely among my top book couples. Love 'em!

And Becca, I love you too, girl! With your onesies, and your love of Amy Poehler, and your blunt personality and loving, supportive friendship! Never have I ever liked a book best friend this much!

The only thing I wish is that we got a whole book about Penn and Becca. They get kinda overshadowed by Kingsley and Liam's white hot chemistry so that maybe not everyone pays them all that much attention. They were right under my nose the first time I read this book and I didn't really paid them much attention. But, after reading it for a second time, I couldn't help but notice the potential for another amazing story there. They have really great chemistry too and I just wanna get to know them better as a couple.

This is such a perfect example of what an NA book should be like. Filled to the brim with juicy drama, laugh-out-loud moments, steamy sexual tension, genuine caring relationships, and make-it-or-break-it life decisions.

I wholly encourage everyone to read this book! There's simply no way you won't like it!

What should I read next?
